About Me

Wednesday, 19 August 2009 18:24 Jason

An experienced student broadcast journalist now seeking a permanent position with four years work experience in the media and student radio. Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and has problem-solving abilites. A conscientious team player, who is able to lead projects.

I consider myself on a journey, at the moment not really focused on the destination but dedicated to ensuring that I am staying on the right track. Someone once said to me, "imagine your on an esculator, once you stop moving forward, you end up going back". So I continue to move forward, one step at a time and so far, the journey has been filled with elation and humbling experiences.

Today I find myself a graduate from Goldsmiths, University of London who has an MA lined up at City University starting in the fall. I was successful in gaining a scholarship from the Scott Trust. This has enabled me to enter one of the most prestigious journalism institutions in this country and a chance to learn the skills that will set this industry on fire!

Some of the downsides have been getting all the way down until the last three candidates on the Channel 4 diversity trainee scheme and not being selected. Apparently over 2,000 people applied for the scheme, then I had to go through the rigourious selection day, then the final interview. I have also applied for every BBC scheme going and still have not been selected for their trainee schemes as of yet.

On the plus side I have managed to line up some work experience with Global Radio in the newsroom. I have the possibility of working on a new start-up as an intern. Also recently won a competition at the Radio Festival for some work experience at Somthin' Else.

So my motto is to never give up, no matter how long and hard the journey seems at times, we are all where we are meant to be. If we really did not like our situation then we would find a way to change it!
