Radio Experience 2009 - Freelance Youth Worker for Eclectic Productions, London. Assisting the teacher with training, development and teachnical issues during a 12 week course delievered to young people working on Reprezent Radio. The young people managed to produce ad-lib shows, scripted links, mixing music, devising full length shows then finally producing their planned shows. - Co-chair of a national diversity campaign with student radio called Represent! The aim of the campaign was to highlight the need for more representation within student radio, in particular reaching different sections of the student body not currently benefiting from the student radio experience. The campaign is supported by the Radio Industry Diversity Group. - Station Manager of the student station at Goldsmiths called Wired Radio for two years. Managed to increase listenership, participation, organisation and development of the station whilst giving students an opportunity to create their own shows under our unique brand. Also working with relevant licencee organisations, the students union and the college to maintain our service which now broadcasts during term time online. http://wiredradio.co.uk
2008 - Mentee on the BBC London Step-Up scheme. The whole programme consists of six sessions learning the theory behind making programmes at the BBC, from media law and editorial guidelines to pitching ideas and understanding audiences. Next another six sessions learning how to produce radio content from vox-pops, scripting, editing and producing audio content. The last two weeks are spent coming in everyday to produce a feature for the Drvietime Show on BBC London 94.9. - Producer for BBC London during Adult Learners' week. Researched, organised, interviewed, scripted, edited and produced an 18 minute audio feature based around adult learners' experiences at Goldsmiths, University of London. 2007 - Freelance Reporter for BBC Five Live. Commissioned to investigate the stations reach into my community through interviews with people from my demographic, attending editorial meetings, speaking to editors and listening to the output for two weeks. The report was delivered on time and made interesting reading for the commissioner. - Assistant Reporter for BBC London. Helping out during a live broadcast of the Sunday Night Special with Dotun Adebayo by interviewing members of the audience, observing the event and cleaning up afterwards. 2006 - Presenter for SW1 Radio, a community station based in Victoria. My lunchtime show consisted of topical current affairs and debate around the main issues of the day. My co-presenter and I used to bounce off of each other and held different views on most subject matters, which made for an entertaining show. I presented the show for two months during the summer. - Presenter for Radio SA, an Internet station for the South African community based in London. My mid-morning show consisted of playing music from the automated system and presenting relevant information for the audience. I presented the show for 6 months.
2005 - Assistant Producer for BBC Southern Counties, Brighton. A two week work experience placement where I attended the daily editorial meetings, followed up on the stories for the day, went out and reported from events, interviewed people connected to various stories, edited the audio back in the studio and generally helped out with any other issues during the day. - Presenter for Radio Reverb, a community radio station based in Brighton. I co-presented the breakfast show and mainly prepared the guest, presented the event listings and answered the calls.
Other communication experience 2009 - Featured on BBC Radio 4's Analysis programme, discussing issues around prison, education and alternative cultures. - Featured on Electric Radio Brixton, Captive Radio and Altcourse Radio, discussing issues around prison and education. 2008 - Featured on BBC 1's The Big Question show on Sunday mornings, discussing issues around religion and morality. - Featured on Colourful Radio's Drivetime programme, discussing issues around young people and violence. 2007 - Featured on BBC London evening news programme, discussing Tony Blair's legacy within education and gang culture. - Featured on Channel 4's Insider programme, discussing issues around young people, gangs and adults. 2006 - Featured on Channel 5's evening news, discussing knife crime and gang culture. - Featured on BBC London's lunch time news programme, speaking about Open Book, the educational project based at Goldsmiths, University of London.
